The lazy blogger is back…hopefully

It took over a week to clear the cobwebs, dust and other assorted debris covering my blog.

I have filled out the New York Times crossword puzzle every day for over 300 days. I have also gone back through the archives—which date to the 1990s—and filled out over 600 more. Yet I haven’t posted something to Foots Prints in over eight months.

That’s a problem. It isn’t the crosswords; they are challenging and a very good way to pass time on a boring day in Nowhere, Kansas.

Not posting on the blog is a problem.

It shows laziness and a lack of commitment on my part. I’ve got to do better. I’ve got to show that I have a pulse and I haven’t gone comatose. Okay, maybe not that far, but I should have been posting all this time.

On the other hand, the events of the last five months have been a great reason NOT to post. I hate talking about politics, but TRUMP IS BEYOND AWFUL. I voted for Dole, Bush, McCain and Romney in the first four presidential elections I was eligible to vote, but I have steadfastly refused to vote for Donald John Trump. Not once. However, I did not vote for Clinton, Biden or Harris either.

That’s right. I have left my presidential ballot BLANK three straight times. That’s all I’m going to say about it.

On a happier note, LSU will attempt to win its eighth Men’s College World Series championship starting Saturday when the Bayou Bengals face Coastal Carolina in the best-of-three championship series in Omaha.

LSU won a wacky 6-5 decision over Southeastern Conference archrival Arkansas Wednesday night, scoring three in the bottom of the ninth after the Razorbacks scored two in the top half to break a 3-3 tie.

Arkansas also lost 4-1 to LSU in the opening round, and is now 0-5 vs. their hated foe to the south in Omaha. Dave Van Horn, Arkansas’ longtime coach, may be the best active collegiate coach, regardless of sport, who has not won a national championship. Van Horn has taken the Razorbacks to the MCWS eight times, yet has nothing to show for it.
Arkansas reached the 2018 MCWS championship series and won the first game vs. Oregon State, only to lose the next two and having to watch the Beavers celebrate their third title.
I believe LSU will end Coastal’s 26-game winning streak Saturday, then wrap it up Sunday. The Chanticleers are a worthy finalist, no doubt, but the Bayou Bengals are a different animal (no pun intended).
Additionally, LSU coach Jay Johnson has reason to want to beat Coastal.

In 2016, Johnson led Arizona to the championship series, only to lose in three games to the Chants. Johnson was hired to succeed Paul Manieri for 2022 and has proven he is worthy of a statue outside Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field, alongside Manieri and J. Stanley Bertman.
