Late Monday

It’s just past 10:30 p.m., and I have now passed six hours at Buffalo Wild Wings. Since I didn’t leave Russell until 12:30, I decided to go straight to B-Dubs rather than checking into my hotel. The way I figured it, my room is guaranteed, and I’m a Marriott Platinum Premier member, so they aren’t going to give me trouble. I’m staying again at the Courtyard Briarcliff in Clay County on US 169, which is about 10 minutes south of Zona Rosa. I’ll be back in Overland Park for my stay starting the 24th.

I didn’t have my best night playing The Pulse. There were some questions which came totally out of left field I wasn’t prepared for. Here are some of them:

  • What Major Leageu BAseball player’s jersey has been the best selling jersey since opening day? I thought it was Mike Trout, but the correct answer was Derek Jeter
  • What NFL team will ahve a mascot named Swagger beginning with the 2014 season? I had no idea it was the Browns.
  • What was the total attendance for the 2014 World Cup/ 3.4 million

When all was said and done, I finished barely above 24,000 (out of 30,000), which is my second lowest score since I first played the game in June 2013. I have the top 10 scores in The Pulse at the Buffalo Wild Wings I frequent, and all are over 26,000. Even though my score was low by my standards, it was still good for 20th nationally.

I just finished my third round of The Late Shift, the Buzztime game which runs from 10 p.m. until closing time. This round was pretty darn good, 9,160 out of 10,000, which puts me number one for July at this Buffalo Wild Wings. I had two perfect games of 10,000 in June, which is harder to do in The Late Shift, since there are four answers and no clues, meaning you could end up with zero more easily than you would during Countdown or Lunchtime Trivia.

I’m staying late at Buffalo Wild Wings tonight because (a) I have all my work done for tomorrow, and (b) I promised Shannon, one of the waitresses here, I would, since she’s working until closing time. Shannon began working here two weeks ago, and I am really sweet on her. She is from Chicago and is a little bit older than Liz, Sean and a lot of the staff. She’s really made me look forward to coming here tonight. Shannon is having to hustle as of late, as she’s got a lot tables, surprising for this hour.

The MLB Home Run Derby is still ongoing. It began almost an hour late because it was raining in Minneapolis. The final round was Todd Frazier of Cincinnati vs. reigning champion Yoenis Cespedes of Oakland. Cespedes hit nine during his final round, and Frazier had only one, meaning the American League has now won five consecutive derbies, which is what you’d expect, since the AL has the DH and more hitter-friendly parks than the NL.

I almost forgot, but today was the anniversary of the last ever game for a particular professional sports league. More to come in the next post.
