The only person doubting me? Me
I don’t know why I doubt people. More importantly, why in the heck do I doubt myself? I have got to learn to trust people and know they care about me and want to see me.
I found that out last night when I got to Buffalo Wild Wings. I was very worried that Lisa Toebben would not want to see me there. I got that in my head because I had not heard from her on Facebook since the last time I saw her on the 7th.
Why? I should have taken into account Lisa has been very busy with classes at Maple Woods College, and also her back has been hurting her. She went to see a doctor on the 11th, but he offered no suggestions. It has to be frustrating for her.
And then I blew up at Brittany Davidson last Monday because Lisa didn’t work the previous day. First, Brittany doesn’t control the schedules. Second, I came to find out Lisa wasn’t scheduled last Sunday.
When I got to Buffalo Wild Wings last night, I was scared to go back there. Elizabeth Psenski, who has acquired far more common sense in less than 21 years than I can hope to acquire in my lifetime, told me my fears were 100 percent unfounded. And they were. Liz should know, because I’ve gone through the same thing with her.
Well, all was very well tonight. Lisa hugged me, and she was so excited about the red velvet cheesecake and Abita beer I brought her. I also brought Liz a piece of red velvet from The Cheesecake Factory. I stopped in Overland Park at Lukas Liquor for the beer and then for the cheesecake before heading across the Missouri River.
I’ve got to learn that just because people don’t get in touch every day doesn’t mean they don’t care. I found that out last week with Brenda LeBlanc, whom I consider my closest friend from Baton Rouge. She was not upset with me at all, but she has been busy with her life. It’s the same with the others in Baton Rouge like Robin Fambrough, Bill Franques, Michael Bonnette and many others.
I’ve got to realize the same thing about Stacie Dauterive Seube and all the rest from Arabi Park, Peggy Cox and all my friends in Kansas, and Liz, Lisa, Brittany and all the rest at Buffalo Wild Wings. Braidey Howe keeps reminding me I’m part of the family. She’s right. And she’s only four months removed from Park Hill High.
I didn’t leave Buffalo Wild Wings until 1:30 a.m. I wanted to stay for Lisa, who worked back-to-back double shifts Friday and Saturday. I’m glad Jeff Daniels came by to be with her at the end of her shift. She needed the pick-me-up. I’m also glad she’ll get a few days off; she doesn’t work again until Friday.
Lisa told me I have to stop the depressing blog posts, the negative thoughts. Not saying it will be easy, but she believes in me. I don’t want to let her down.
