Last Saturday of my 30s

Down to FIVE DAYS before I turn 40. Actually, it’s a few minutes less than five days, since I was born at 9:16 a.m.

I used to sleep well past noon on Saturday. Sometimes it would be almost 2 before I finally got up for good. I would be stupid and stay up past 4 a.m. Sunday, sometimes longer.

Not anymore. Thank you, CPAP.

I was up before 7 this morning. I’m now ready to go to Buffalo Wild Wings for opening at 11. Kansas plays TCU and Mississippi State hosts Auburn, among other games kicking off at 11. LSU and Florida were SUPPOSED to play at 11 a.m., but Jeremy Foley, Greg Sankey and Hurricane Matthew scuttled that idea.

Kansas State hosts Texas Tech at 6 on ESPNU. Wildcats coach Bill Snyder celebrated his 77th birthday yesterday. On the other hand, “celebrating” is totally foreign to Snyder. I’m sorry, I can’t condone the man’s tactics. Yes, he’s performed a minor miracle in Manhattan, Kansas. However, how he’s gone about it has been all wrong.

The ABC prime time game is Florida State at Miami. Meh. Not a big ACC fan. There’s no SEC Network prime time game; Georgia-South Carolina was postponed until tomorrow at 2:30 Eastern due to Matthew.

I got to Kansas City at 3:15 yesterday. Checked into the Courtyard on Tiffany Springs Parkway (NO WAY I was fighting traffic driving to Overland Park like I did two weeks ago), and by 4:15, I was at Buffalo Wild Wings. I scared Tori when she was taking an order. Molly and Tressa were tending bar last night, so I stayed until just before 10.

Robb and Dawn did not show up. Neither did Skylar or LOWPOP. No big deal. Robb and Dawn said they’d be there tomorrow and Tuesday, which is great for me. I’m in KC until I get my work done for Russell Wednesday. Hopefully I’m out no later than noon. I might stop at the B-Dubs in Salina on my way home. I have time to think about it.

Tonight, I will be gone no later than 8:30. There is a UFC fight card starting at 9, and there’s no way I want to be in there while UFC is on the tube. Besides, it will allow me to do a little work if I so desire, and go to bed at a decent hour so I don’t oversleep tomorrow. I want to get as much done as possible before Monday at noon.

I want to make a road trip to Columbia while I’m in Missouri. Not to visit Mizzou, but there’s an item I can’t find in Kansas City that I can in Columbia. The only other places I can do it are Omaha and Lincoln, and I am loath to drive into Nebraska then have to go south on either US 81 from York to Salina, or on a two-lane highway to I-70.

This isn’t going to be as hard a week. Several volleyball teams only played Tuesday–or Monday in Logan’s case–and of course, football is only one game. I only have to write one story on the Ellis-Smith Center football game, and I can kill four birds with one stone for cross country, as Ellis, Phillipsburg, Plainville and Smith Center were all at the Mid-Continent League meet/Phillipsburg Invitational.

Enough sitting around the hotel room. I’m on my way out.

About David

Louisiana native living in Kansas. New Orleans born, LSU graduate. I have Asperger’s Syndrome, one toe less than most humans, addictions to The Brady Bunch, Lifetime movies, Bluey, most sports, food and trivia. Big fan of Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, New Orleans Saints, Montreal Canadiens. Was a big fan of Quebec Nordiques until they moved to Denver. My only celebrity crush is NFL official Sarah Thomas. I strongly dislike LSU fans who think Alabama is its biggest rival, warm weather, steaks cooked more than rare, hot dogs with ketchup, restaurants without online ordering, ranch dressing, Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Alex Ovechkin, Barry Bonds, Putin, his lover in Belarus, North Korean dictators, Venezuelan dictators, all NHL teams in the south (especially the Lightning and Panthers), Brooklyn Nets and Major League Soccer.
