Wasted Wednesday morning

I have already had a rough go. I am overdue to get my oil changed, tires rotated and trunk light fixed on my Chevrolet Impala at Morse-McCarthy Chevrolet. I had an appointment for 8:30, but I slept and slept, and now it is 11:30. Lucky for me, the dealership is only five minutes north of the hotel on Metcalf Avenue.

I got one piece of good news this morning. I was the top player in the nation Monday night at Buzztime’s The Pulse, the 30-question sports quizwhich runs from 7 to 8 p.m. Central every Monday. The other nine players in the top two were from two bars. I’ll explain later. This the second time I’ve been tops in the nation, the other was March 31.

No World Cup today. The US is out after losing 2-1 in extra time to Belgium yesterday. The match was scoreless through 90 minutes, but Belgium scored twice in the first 15-minute period of extra time. The Americans scored early in the second extra period, but could not find the equalizer, and thus are coming home. The final eight are Brazil-Colombia, France-Germany, Netherlands-Costa Rica and Argentina-Belgium. The quarterfinals are Friday and Saturday, semifinals Tuesday and next Wednesday, and the championship is Sunday, July 13.

About David

I am a sportswriter for a group of weekly newspapers in small towns across northern Kansas. I grew up in New Orleans, went to college at LSU and wandered in the wilderness until Hurricane Katrina finally put me on the path to my current job.
